Kaelyn Porter is December’s Teacher of the Month.
This is Ms. Porter’s second year at David E. Norman.
She is a veteran teacher hired to the White Pine County School District. She brought much expertise with her and became a leader immediately in the second grade last school year.
This year she has graciously moved to a lead teaching position in the kindergarten class.
By moving to kindergarten she has been instrumental in the development of programming to provide key Tier I instruction and Tier II interventions for struggling students in all kindergarten classes.
She is currently a member of our District Literacy Team, where she promotes literacy by training teachers during district TLC meetings and coaching others in their literacy efforts.
She also serves as a district mentor teacher, providing additional training and instruction in Spalding, Singapore, Foss, and other district and DEN initiatives to new teachers. Sarah Bills is December’s Support Staff for the month of December.
Mrs. Bills has been a member of our staff as a paraprofessional for the past two years at David E. Norman. She has worked tirelessly with one of our most severe and profound students in our Comprehensive Life Skills classroom. This position requires physical and emotional strength and great responsibility in order to ensure learning and safety for her student.
She has taken it upon herself to develop appropriate curriculum, lessons, and activities for her student.
During her stay at DEN, her student has achieved profound advancements in his learning.
Based on her skills, caring personality, and ability to work with challenging children, Mrs. Bills has been encouraged by numerous staff members at DEN to pursue Special Education as a future career. She has taken this advice seriously and applied for a substitute license.
She has also begun study in education at Great Basin College.
Mrs. Bills’s dedication to the profession of education make her a valuable member of the DEN staff.
