A fundraiser will be held at the Silver State Restaurant this Saturday and Sunday for “Team Heidy”.
Who is Heidy you ask? Well, many of you have probably already know her, or maybe you know her face, but not her name. She is the smiling face you see when you go to Economy Drug to pick up your prescriptions.
Did you know she has MS? You sure wouldn’t know it by her smile and contagious laugh. She was diagnosed in March of 2012, but her doctor told her that she may have had MS as far back as 2005.
Three years ago, Heidy decided to put together a team for the MS walk that is held in Reno each year.
The first year Heidy and her mother-in- law participated in the walk, now 3 years later, they have an 18 member team with people coming from California to join her team for the MS walk on April 29th in Reno, Nevada.
The Multiple Scleroris Foundation estimates that more than 400,000 people in the United States and about 2.5 million people around the world have MS. Approximately 200 new cases are diagnosed each week in the United States. MS interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and it stops people from moving. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis.
So for a having a disease that can stop you from moving, Heidy has definitely made it her mission to fight it, and keep moving forward by heading up this team for the MS walk. Heidy said “each year has just been increasing in the number of team members walking, and the amount of donations we have received, it’s be an awesome to see the progress”.
If you would like join the team you can go to www.mswalk.org and search for Team Heidy. If you would like to give a monetary donation, you can contact Heidy at 775-293-3645 or Christa Mike at 775-560-6410.
The Silver State will be having specials such as the “MS” Mushroom/Swiss Burger Special on Saturday, and on Sunday a “MS” Meat-lover’s Skillet Special. There will also be a bake sale going on outside of the restaurant as well, from 11:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.
Stop in and support a great cause, enjoy some lunch, and grab a treat or two to go home with.
Millions of people are affected by MS and the challenges of living with its unpredictable symptoms. Multiple sclerosis interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the body and it stops people from moving. Every hour in the United States, someone is newly diagnosed with MS, a disease of the central nervous system. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS.
