In less than one week two fatal accidents have been reported on the same stretch of road.
The first accident Nevada Highway Patrol reported took place on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at approximately 3:50 p.m. when a 2002 Chevy Express passenger van was traveling towards Ely on US 6 when the accident occurred at mile marked 119 in Nye County. The van drifted off the roadway edge, the driver over-steered, and then the vehicle began to fishtail, where it then went into a broadside skid and overturned. The vehicle was carrying seven passengers, one minor who was eleven years of age passed away. Two other minors were airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital and are in critical condition. The driver and 3 minor juveniles were transported to William Bee Ririe Hospital were they were treated for minor injuries.
On Tuesday, November 7th at approximately 3:30 p.m. a four door Dodge pick-up overturned at mile marker 119 on Highway 6. The truck was carrying 8 passengers at the time, 4 located in the cab of the truck and 2 in the bed of the truck underneath the camper shell of the vehicle. One person was pronounced dead at the scene, one juvenile was air lifted to a hospital nearby that could handle the juveniles level of treatment needed. The remaining six passengers were transported to William Bee Ririe Hospital with several different injuries.
It is important to note that none of the passengers in the first accident were wearing seat belts, and several of the passengers in the second accident were not wearing seat belts either. The names of these who did not survive have not been release until their next of kin are notified. Investigation into both accidents continues.
