Gloria M. Bernd Wood left this earth to quilt in Heaven on January 7, 2018. She was born October 24, 1928, in Sacramento, California, but was raised on the Kruse Ranch in Lovelock, Nevada, until the family moved into town. She graduated from Pershing County High School in 1946.
She married Francis Bernd in October of 1946 and they were together until his death in 1975. They lived in various communities in Nevada as Frankie worked road construction until they settled in Kimberly, Nevada and finally in East Ely.
She married James Wood in 1978 and they were together until his death in 2001. During that time with Jim, they lived in Preston, Fort Ruby in Ruby Valley, and East Ely. Gloria moved to Spring Creek in 2009 where she lived with Janet until her death.
Gloria was an avid quilter and made more than 100 quilts and quilt projects for family and friends. She was one of the founding members of the Sagebrush Quilters. She was meticulous at sewing her creations of beauty and art. Even after losing most of her eyesight, she still continued to create her beautiful quilts, table runners, placemats and wall hangings. It just took her a little longer. She also loved to fish at the Ruby Marshes.
