Brenda Garcia, a native and lifelong resident of McGill, and her friend Tina Freeman, who moved to White Pine County in 2012, decided to open a variety store together in McGill.
Unique Treasures is the name, and it definitely holds true to its name. Many local crafters, writers and sales reps for a variety of products from DoTerra Oils to Scentsy are just some of the items available at this store.
Located on the “main” street in McGill, this store is frequented by many locals but also many tourists who are traveling through looking for a souvenir or handmade item you won’t find in any chain store.
Unique Treasures is located at No. 4 B 4th St. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Garcia said she was inspired to open the store“one day my aunt from Florida was here visiting and she was trying to find souvenirs to send back to Florida.”
Garcia, being raised in McGill, always knew of a lot of people in the community who are extremely talented but those talents were only noticed at the craft fairs or Arts in the Park once a year. Many people always looked to purchase items later on without success, so Garcia and Freeman decided to have a unique place for people to purchase such items.
Many locals have their items on display and for sale in the store. Woodwork by Russ Pantello, hand-sewn items by Lydia Garcia, photos by Gary Stolks, and hand-carved granite by Jaqueline Miller just to name a few. Garcia noted they are always looking to add items to their store. If you have something handmade, contact Garcia by stopping in at the store.
Unique Treasures will be holding a ribbon cutting with the McGill Town Council during their grand opening on Saturday at 10 a.m.
