Jorge Alonso Chamorro and Hannah Marri Barber have been named Students of the Month for March, according to Ely Elks Lodge #1469.

Chamorro, age 19, is the son of Marcela Gonzalez and Jorge Chamorro of Ruth.

Barber, age 17, is the daughter of Anthony and Heather Barber of Ely.  Both are seniors at White Pine High School and will graduate with the Class of 2018.

The Student of the Month program is sponsored by the Elks Lodge in an effort to bring recognition to outstanding students in the area.

Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection of Students of the Month.

Chamorro is the 2018 WPHS football team captain, Honorable mention for Nevada AA Northern conference and best offensive line varsity for WPHS football.  He has earned a football offensive varsity letter and has been active in wrestling for six years.

His hobbies are being a volunteer firefighter for the Ruth Fire Dept., pantry food service volunteer for Sacred Heart Catholic Church, member of the Knights of Columbus, member of Sacred Heart youth group, football, wrestling, weight room, track and field.

Barber has been active in the WPHS choir and honor choir, soccer and a thespian.

Her hobbies are singing and sports.
