Tyler Jakob Lawrence and Bailey Estelle Schulz have been named Students of the Year for 2017-2018, according to Ely Elks Lodge #1469.

Lawrence, age 14, is the son of Tom and Jaime Lawrence of McGill.

Schulz, age 13, is the daughter of Susan Schulz Stark and Brent Stark of Ely.  Both Lawrence and Schulz graduated with the Class of 2018 at Learning Bridge Charter School.

The Student of the Year program is sponsored by the Elks Lodge in an effort to bring recognition to the two outstanding students selected from the Students of the Month for 2017-2018.

Students of the Year are selected by the youth activities committee in the sponsoring lodge and are suitably honored at promotion ceremonies. Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection of Students of the Year.

Lawrence has been active in football, baseball, track and basketball.  He is also a member of the Aaronic Priesthood.

His hobbies are shed hunting, hiking, exploring and video games.

Schulz has been active in track, soccer and peer mentoring.  She was the LBCS Student Council Vice-President and also Student of the Month in 2016.  She participates in philanthropy events at Bayside Church and is a member, participating in the youth group.

Her hobbies are drawing, reading, writing and jogging.
