Fire season is in full swing, and with the report of a fire in the Duck Creek Basin area on Tuesday, now in less than 24 hours, Wednesday, July 18, brings another fire, this time in the Sampson Creek area.
The fire has currently burned 200 acres on public lands east of U.S. Highway 93, about 60 miles northeast of Ely. The fire was burning in grass, brush and pinion-juniper. Responding were one Type 2 hand crew, four engines, one heavy air tanker, four single engine air tankers (SEATs), a dozer and water tender. Assisting the BLM were the Forest Service, White Pine Fire District, cooperators from neighboring states, and private contractors. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
