I am continuing the discussion on Roads again and the second funding source for the Road Department is “Public Transit Funds”.

This funding, is fuel tax revenue from the State, passed through the County to the City and we receive approximately $168,000.00 a year.

The primary function of this fund is for, up keep, maintaining and repairing equipment, purchasing road material and asphalt  for street repair.  This fund also pays for street  light replacement and repair and when  one of the old street lights finally go out, they are being replaced with energy efficient LED Bulbs.

Public Transit Funds are not used for wages and benefits.  Now the burning Question – How do we pay for a brand new Street?  That’s next weeks Moment.
