Addison McKenzie Hankins and Cora Jean Calhoun have been named Junior Students of the Month for December, according to Ely Elks Lodge 1469.

Hankins, age 14, is the daughter of Sam and Breanna Hankins of McGill. Calhoun, age 13, is the daughter of Cliff and Suzanne Calhoun of Ely. Both are 8th graders at White Pine Middle School.

The Junior Student of the Month program is sponsored by the Elks Lodge in an effort to bring recognition to outstanding students in the area.

Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection of Junior Students of the Month.

Hankins has been active in traveling basketball, WPMS Yearbook, and White Pine Junior Jazz. She is a member and Secretary of the Steptoe Stockmen’s 4-H Club. Her hobbies are horseback riding, animal husbandry, basketball camps and practicing softball.

Calhoun is a member of the advanced band and plays the French horn. She plays AYSO soccer, is active in Miss Viv’s School of Dance and the Ely Children’s community theater. She is a member of the Ely United Methodist and the UMC choir and youth group.

She has also been a ballet teacher for two years with the White Pine Children’s Arts Festival.

Her hobbies are dance, singing, acting, playing the French horn, drawing, writing, camping and spending time with pets and family.
