Last month David E. Norman Elementary hosted a Kindergarten-1st Grade Spot Light on a Reading Literacy Event. Through partnerships with: parents & students, PTO, DEN principal, teachers & staff, school board members, Scholastic F.A.C.E. (Family and Community Engagement), Read by Grade 3 Learning Strategists and community members this event was able to provide dinner, literacy workshops for parents & students, literacy activities for siblings including storytelling through music & artwork through stories, and books for students to take home. The hope is to continue to expand these events in the future. Partnerships are key for student success and they are working to find more ways to grow, cultivate, & nurture these crucial partnerships that promote literacy. After all, parents are the child’s first and most important teachers and literacy is the foundation of all education. Working together only makes a stronger community and ensures a brighter future for our children.
