Margaret “Peggy” Ashby Gardner was born 27 December 1926 in Preston, Nevada to May L “Mazie” Reid and Bryant Garr Ashby. She died on 7 March 2019 at 92 years of age in Lund, Nevada, at the home of her daughter Rhoda Godfrey. She lived in Lund, Nevada her entire life. She graduated from Lund High School in 1945 and loved her teachers and subjects, especially math.
On 25 May 1945 she married Van Cannon Gardner, a young man she had known all her life, in Lund, Nevada, in the home they bought and fixed up prior to their marriage. Their first child, Garr David Gardner, was stillborn. Four other children were born to them, Rhoda, Van Jeffrey, Doreen, and Larry Cannon.
She was a hard worker and helped her husband with the milking, farming and ranching until the children got old enough to help, then she drove the truck, chopped wood for the branding fire, cooked, kept a clean house, did most of the yard work and gardening and kept the books.
Peggy was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many callings during her lifetime.
She was a pianist and played for the choir and primary for many years. She also accompanied many singers and musicians on their instruments.
Peggy was preceded in death by her infant son, parents, and two sisters. She is survived by daughter Rhoda Godfrey (Jay), son Jeff, daughter Doreen Larsen (Denny), son Larry (Marcela) and Cal Rollins (Addie) who was like a son to her. Grandchildren, Joni Hooley (John), Rocky Bybee (Jared), Lamar Gardner (Amber), Michelle Lane (Mark), Sydney Van Ausdal (Jason), Sam Matheson (Jessica), Ben Matheson (Vicki), Jack Matheson, Betsy Matheson and Luke Matheson.
She is also survived by twenty four great grand children and two great great grand children, a sister Dawn Whipple (JL), a sister-in-law Joan Gardner and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held 16 March 2019 in the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints in Lund, Nevada with the viewing at 10:00 AM and the funeral at 11:00. Burial will be in the Lund cemetery.
