ELY—As the Nevada Northern Railway Museum rumbles back to life for its 32nd excursion season, the working historic railroad brings back visitor favorites and adds new events guests will love.

The season kicks off with White Pine Weekend. All residents of White Pine County Nevada are invited to take a ride on the Nevada Northern Railway this weekend for free. Trans operate Saturday, April 6 at 1:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 7 at 9:30 a.m. and at 1:00 p.m. All passengers will need a ticket, you will need proof of being a White Pine County resident. Please pick up your ticket as least 30 minutes before train time. The quantity of the tickets is limited and are available on first come basis.

New for 2019 is the Copper Spike Limited, the first one is on May 10th at 4:30 p.m. in celebration of the 150th Anniversity of the completion of the transcontinental railroad. As part of the festivities that day is a free concert by the Bar D wranglers in the Nevada Northern Railway Freight Depot.

Visitor favorites include: Be the Engineer where visitors actually take the throttle of a century old steam locomotive, or Bids with the Engineer in the cab of the locomotive. Special train rides such as the Rockin’ & Rollin’ Geology Trains, Fourth of July Fireworks train, and the Wild West Limited, along with regular train rides are also popular experiences.

For an immersive, working experience there is Railroad Reality Week, an intense hands-on opportunity to actually work on the railroad “all the live-long day.”

As the season winds down, a Halloween Ghost Train offers up fun frights in October, and the Santa’s Reindeer Flyer train ride that celebrates the holiday spirit.

Don’t have time to ride the train, there’s still plenty to see and do on a visit to this National Historic Landmark. At most museums, guests go into one building, but at Nevada Northern Railway, guests go into multiple buildings and see first-hand what it takes to keep a 19th century railroad operating in the 21st century.

At the Nevada Northern Railway, history is not something in books but touchable and the 2019 season offers something for every member of the family. For more information and a complete schedule, go to www.nnry.com.
