Letter to the Editor:

I cannot emphasize enough that, for now, the mining industry is a god-sent for White Pine County. However, for our long-term survival as a thriving community, we have to develop our many tourism assets – the railroad, the development of Cummins Lake as a world class fishing destination and the many other outdoor activities that can be developed.

Let’s start now, while we still have the mines to support this effort. Waiting till they leave will be too late. Just remember, when Kennecott Mine closed, Ely would have become a ghost town if not for the efforts of our then forward- thinking community leaders to bring in the maximum security prison!
