Fire District Station 1 was approved to be officially closed down and re-keyed by the end of this day.   

The White Pine County Commission approved the closure, in addition to placing all White Pine County Fire District staff on administrative leave effective immediately. Staff will be paid through July 19, and will be paid out on their annual and sick leave time. 

Sheriff Scott Henriod was instructed to dispatch the City of Ely Fire Department for all calls, and concurrently dispatch outlining volunteer stations closest to and incident or emergency.

Finance Manager Elizabeth Frances and members of her department will be taking inventory of the physical assets and apparatus. Tim Bunch, Human Resources manager, has also been instructed to compile an updated list of volunteers from every station.  

A temporary rental agreement with MedX AirOne was also approved to rent out part of Fire Station 1 so MedX Air One can assist with transports. Rent will be $8,000 a month. In addition, Medx Air One will rent up to two ambulances, but one in the beginning until June 30.

Volunteers currently attending an EMT basic certification course with the White Pine County Fire District to attend the City of Ely’s current EMT training class currently taking place.
