Elizabeth Ann Puckett, 80, of Ruth, Nevada, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 29, 2019. She passed peacefully at home, in her bed, after a long struggle with several physical ailments.

Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Fipps  was born to the late Lula Pearl Fipps in Camdenton, Missouri on August 26,1938. Lula married Benjamin Wheeler and the family moved to Nevada in search of work when Betty was 5 years old. Betty was the oldest of 5 children. She attended Elementary and High Schools in Ely, Nevada. In her junior year of High School, she met James Puckett, who had recently moved from Ohio to work at Kennecott. They were married August 27,1955 in Lane City. They made their home together in Ruth, NV where they raised their 3 children, Elmer Lee, Kenneth Wade and Shirley Ann.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Shirley Rinell of Everett, Washington and her grand daughter Krystal (Jordan) Emig of Salt Lake City, Utah. She is also survived by her brothers, Ed Wheeler of Wright, Wyoming and John Wheeler, of Kansas City, Kansas. Betty was predeceased by her husband, James, in 2014, son, Elmer in 1977 and son Ken in 2017.

An avid music lover, Betty began playing the piano at the age of 8. After her parents gave her an Accordion on her 15th birthday, she then began singing and playing  both piano and accordion in church. Betty loved children and “mothered” many, in addition to her own 3. She was a children’s teacher for many years in Sunday School and community outreach in “Good News Clubs”.

In the early 70’s, Betty was an Avon “lady”. In 1974, she began her career as a cook at White Pine Care Center for 21 years.  She later cooked at the Ely Senior Center for 7 years. Her favorite thing was to cook, bake and experiment with food. She had a wonderful gift of hospitality with an “open door” policy to serve people in her home. She was an active church member all of her adult life serving in many capacities. She was known for her deep faith and commitment to Jesus Christ. She was a loyal and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Betty will be remembered as a sensitive, nurturing and loving woman that exemplified integrity, honesty, kindness, compassion and faithfulness. The term “sweet” was very often used to describe her.

Thank you to the staff of William Bee Ririe Hospital, for their loving care during the lengthy stay.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday, August 4, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Ely, NV. Burial will follow at the Ely City Cemetery.
