The White Pine County Library is starting a new reading buddies program. This program is designed to match second-grade readers with library volunteers in order to strengthen the children’s love for and proficiency in reading.
The program will run Jan. 9 through Feb. 13. Families are asked to commit to bringing their child into the White Pine County Library every week for five weeks during their reserved time slot each Friday. The child will read with a volunteer for 30 minutes while their families enjoy the amenities the library offers. Upon program completion, children will receive a certificate and a small prize. Spots are currently limited.

For families interested in participating as either families or library volunteers, contact the White Pine County Library at 775-293-6900 or stop by during business hours.
“Our ultimate goal is helping families raise children that are lifelong readers,” said the library. “While this is not a tutoring program, we hope that the weekly routine of exploring the library as a family and finding books that they love will help to foster a passion for literacy.”
