The Ladycats built a strong 7-1-1 preseason record following back-to-back straight-set sweeps over Wells and Eureka.
The Ladycats volleyball team continued its strong start to the 2026 season after a straight-set victory over Wells on Friday, Aug. 28, and another over Eureka on Saturday, Aug. 29. White Pine is 7-1-1 this preseason and won’t get into its league season until Sept. 11 when WPHS hosts Founders Classical Academy.
“Our team is continuing to come together and build trust in one another and in our new coaching staff,” said White Pine head coach Allison Huntington. “This is a different team than we’ve had in previous years, and I’ve been proud of the maturity and growth the girls have shown so far this season.”
The Ladycats mauled the Leopards (3-5) on Friday, improving in every set and winning 25-16, 25-14, 25-5. The Lady Vandals actually improved in every set on Saturday, falling 25-8, 25-15, 25-16. Eureka managed only one ace and got just 77.5% of serves in play. They returned serve at a similar percentage, which wasn’t enough to hang with the Ladycats.
“While Eureka is a smaller school and we expected to compete well, each match has given us an opportunity to learn, grow and prepare for the tougher competition ahead. We currently have a few players out, which has challenged some of our athletes to step into different positions and roles,” Huntington said. “I believe those experiences will only make us stronger and more versatile as the season progresses.”
White Pine has over a week to get healthy, with road games at Round Mountain on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 5 p.m. and Lund on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. Lund defeated the Ladycats in three sets on Aug. 22, so a fully healthy roster would be helpful in that matchup.
“We are excited to get everyone back healthy and continue building on what we’ve started,” Huntington said. “The girls are working hard, coming together as a team, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the rest of the season brings.”
